Oquur: The Story of Mons

The village of Mons needs your help in this story-driven deck-builder adventure!

Oquur: The Story of Mons is our first boardgame. We are really excited to share it with the world. I hope you will enjoy playing it as much as we enjoyed creating it. At its heart, it is a cooperative deck-builder game, but we strive to make it so much more than that. It has a rich story, unique mechanics and twist and turns around every corner.

Tom Bokhove

Director, First Person B.V.

In Oquur: The Story of Mons you play a cooperative deck-building game in which death of a character may be a favourable result. Keep an eye out for enemies that may invade your deck, as they are not that easy to get rid of. Defeat the boss to win and do not let it defeat you.

Players have a hand of cards they can play during their turn in a round. They can play coins to gain new cards, weapons to defeat enemies or actions to gain additional benefits. Enemies will become part of player decks, and should be managed properly to avoid them taking over a player.

Tactical sacrifices, playing to the strengths of your character and team work are a must to fight the foes that have settled themselves in the mountainous regions of Mons. Rely on your teammates and make sure that you can keep your home safe.

Story-driven!

Learn all about wandlings and how their story integrates seemlessly with the game mechanics!

Enemies are everywhere

No one knows where the wandlings got their high-end technology, but it sure gives them an incredible advantage over their enemies, that try to invade their decks at every possible opportunity. It is, however, also partially the cause of the problem, as these weapons occasionally open up portals around Mons to different regions of Oquur, where dangerous creatures may lurk that could no easily set foot on the mountainous terrains surrounding the village. Keep your deck clean from enemies or avoid having to play them and you will surely survive!

The Invasion card is a card that is part of the starter deck of every player. It can also not be removed from the player deck during the game. Every time a player has to play it, a new random enemy card will be added to their deck, causing all kinds of penalties for the player, like losing health, discarding cards or even instant transformation.

Heroes and Transformation

As Yori looks up from his orb, he sees much more than a sphere holding his unborn child.

“The potential of these orbs is limitless, if only the other wandlings would understand. They could engineer future wandlings to become ultimate fighter machines or intellectuals that could solve the problems of Mons forever. Why don’t the other see that?”

Yori sits down exhausted. He twitches with his eyes uncontrollably, as he both gazes at and fears the glowing green sphere he is holding. Its magnificent, yet somehow it stirs a deep feeling of uneasyness within him. As if his very core wants to force him to stop his investigations.

Transformation is part of our boardgame, as wandlings do not die when their body reaches a state that is beyond repair, but rather they transform. Their bodies are obsorbed by their own orb and a new body with a new personality is “born” on the spot. Players draw a random personality at the start of the game from a set of 10 personalities. Whenever a player reaches 0 life, a player transforms and draws a new personality.

Stories

As wandlings transform when they die, it seems that the impossible has happened in Mons: An actual murder. How could this be? And who is responsible for this heinous act? This event is not an incident, but rather the start of a journey for a group of heroes that are set to defend their own village from the villain known only as the Last Soul. They have to face many foes during their travels through the world of Oquur, but they are determined to fight till the very last moment to save their homes from the evil that roams the world.

Our game is a campaign game that includes a large story. Over the course of four playable chapters, the heroes will investigate the strange occurences in Mons. Every chapter by itself is an entirely different experience, telling the story from the perspective of the players and their friends Zoko, Kali and the newly “born” Rylo. The stories, including unique game mechanics for every chapter, will surprise the players, while always staying true to the deck-building mechanic that is at the heart of our game. Chapters are played in three different phases that increase in difficulty until the end boss comes into play. Defeating the end boss means a win for the players. A chapter takes the players roughly 2.5 to 3 hours, but players can save their game in between phases (roughly 1 hour each).
